In the Summer of 2001 we decided to get Corsa, our loving Yellow Labrador, a canine companion. We love Labrador Retrievers and there was no question that we'd get another to keep him company. We had planned, however, on getting him a little brother. We even had a name already picked out. We'd call him "Monza", keeping with our Italian name theme, and in honor of the great racetrack. Chela wanted a Chocolate Lab but the breeder did not have any Chocolate males. Then we met the sweet little Chocolate fenmale that the breeders were calling "Harley". No way we'd let this poor puppy go through life named that! Just imagine the people she might start running with! It could get ugly. After a lot of licking and sniffing and wiggling on her part she seemed to give us "two paws up" and she was ours. She was just the sweetest little puppy, and with her rich brown color there was only one possible name. Godiva! It came to me in a bolt of inspiration and Chela agreed it was perfect. Here is a picture of the litter only a few weeks old. Godiva is the true Chocolate in the picture, 4th from the left.
Here are some pictures of her in our backyard, the day we brought her home at 7 weeks old.
Godiva is the most fearless puppy I've ever seen. Within hours of joining the family she'd endeared herself to Corsa by grabbing on to his cheek with her mouth and not letting go. Within a day they'd become great buddies and are constanly romping around the property together, chasing deer, balls, and errant birds.
Here they are together that same day.
