3.30.2003-Play Day!

I didn't do any work on the Alfa this weekend because I spent Saturday getting my CS ready for its first track day.  As a newly minted member of the Northern California Alfa Romeo Owner's Club I was able to get about 16 laps around one of my favorite local racetracks (Sears Point) in my BMW.  The Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) was in attendance and graciously allowed us to run around the track during their lunch period.

I drove up early Sunday morning in glorious spring weather, arriving at the track at 9:30AM.  There is nothing like a race track in the morning.  The pits are alive with activity as fans and contestants stream in.  Everyone is filled with anticipation and excitement of the day's coming events.

I found the Alfa club and got my car tech'd.  Thankfully I was not the only non-Alfa driving with the club.  There were some very nice Alfas both in the club and among the CSRG contingent was well.  My favorites were the GTAs and the very nicely prepped TZ.

When lunch time rolled around we headed out to run our allotted laps and I had a great time following and being followed by some skilled drivers in some very nice machines.

The CS is not a great track car, at least not in its current configuration, but it made it around ok, and I had fun driving the track.  I've got hundreds of laps around this track on my race bike, but this was the first time I'd ever driven it in a car.

No one pranged their car, or even went off track, and before we knew it our time was up.  It was now our turn to have some lunch, and watch the real racers drive the 11-turn course that will always be Sears Point to me.

Ciao!
